THE BATTLE BETWEEN WHO YOU WERE AND WHO YOU ARE BECOMING

Your old self is fighting for its life — because the new you is waking up.

There comes a moment in your journey when your old self rises up —

not because it is strong,

but because it is afraid of losing you.

Your old self knows every comfort, every shortcut, every familiar pattern.

It knows how to keep you safe, small, predictable… even if predictable was slowly destroying you. It whispers the same lies you used to believe because it remembers the version of you that settled for less.

But the new you…

the one being shaped by resilience, honesty, and truth —

is fighting to break through.

The new you was born from every moment you stood back up after life knocked you flat.

From every setback that should have buried you but somehow made you wiser.

From every season where no one saw your tears, your effort, or your prayers —yet you kept going anyway.

The new you learned who to turn to when validation ran dry.

You stopped handing your worth to people who couldn’t hold it.

You planted seeds in your own soil — reaching for knowledge, truth, and clarity so you could sustain yourself from within.

You learned to encourage yourself in the dark

when applause was absent

and support was silent.

You learned to wear your spiritual armor correctly —

not as a costume,

but as protection

against the fiery darts that aimed for your progress.

And now…

the old you is fighting to stay.

It can sense its own end.

It tries to pull you back into patterns you outgrew.

It tries to weaken your discipline,

dull your vision ,

and make you question the progress you’ve made.

It wants to convince you that change is too heavy, too hard, too holy for someone like you.

But hear this:

The old you cannot follow you into destiny.

It cannot survive in the places you are being called to rise into.

It cannot walk with you into purpose because it was only designed to survive your past.

Let it resist.

Let it protest.

Let it try to cling to what it used to be.

Its struggle is proof that transformation is happening.

The new you is awakening —

and awakening is disruptive.

You are not who you were…

and you will not return to who you were.

You are becoming the version of yourself

that God has been preparing in the quiet places.

The version strengthened through storms,

stretched through truth,

and lifted by grace.

The new you is ready.

The new you is rising.

And the new you will win.

Reflection Question:

Which part of the journey are you facing today?

A) My old self resisting change

B) My new self rising to the surface
